You are a wag, Mr Truman... Just like your lovely dad! As to the noise... Last November I suggested the following to the Gardening Club, which I thought (and think) could be a most interesting and innovative idea... I expect we all notice how visiting other gardens in the village changes ones perception of the village’s general ‘shape’, but there is another aspect too…   And that is the noise of traffic, particularly from the A361, but also from other roads.   From our own garden at Tallet Cottage and CWW, although we are in line of sight of the A361 (ie we can see the traffic on the road across the field), except for the usual ‘racing’ motorbikes and occasional big trucks, we hardly hear the noise.   However, it seems to me, visiting other gardens, some are very noisy, and others not at all… But it does not seem to be an issue necessarily of distance, nor physical barrier.     Where noise is an issue, one is no doubt tempted to plant thick hedges, and trees, or build tall walls. But that does not necessarily seem to have the effect expected.   For instance, perhaps putting a barrier at an angle, to deflect the noise might well be more beneficial than trying to block it? Perhaps it needs something of a larger, joint and cooperative nature… Who knows?   Well, perhaps someone would…   It occurs to me that it might be interesting to get someone versed in acoustics and allied crafts to look at the issue, and give a presentation to the Gardening Club.   I expect that someone suitable could be found in the University in Oxford.   And if such a presentation takes place, and it is open to non-members… I will certainly attend!
