Heated swimming pool

in Great Outdoors

I know this is a log shot and the filkins pool is only open from march to August but what if it was open a little bit longer in the mouth. And get funding to make heated pool so the water is warm

Controversially perhaps, I think we should consider restricting the membership of the swimming pool so that it is more of benefit to those who live in the village. Sometimes its packed with people not from the village. It would also reduce the number of parked cars.

Years ago I swam in a pool that had a certain amount of black paint on the bottom. It was cleverly done, in the shape of a large compass, which made it look pretty. Another bit had a teddy bear painted on the bottom. You could feel the heat as you swam over the black painted bits - we all know how black attracts the heat of the sun. Maybe this would be an economical way to raise the temperature of the water in the pool? As long as we get sun......

A most interesting idea... There's quite a bit on the internet about the advantages of dark pools... But there is the slight snag that apparently it is more difficult to judge depth in a dark coloured pool.

Richard, I cannot get on to that website. Says I don't have permission to access it. I have always thought that something like a black and white chessboard would look rather fun, and roughly 50% would be black.

Interesting idea... I guess it is an equation of heating cost on one side, against extra entrance money on the other. Perhaps the extra month or so of 'heated pool' could be charged separately to cover the cost?
